Classroom Volunteer Requirements - Newcastle Elementary Charter School

Posted Date: 07/14/26 (01:55 PM)

Dear Newcastle Families,

At Newcastle Elementary School District, we deeply value the support of our parents and community volunteers. Volunteers play an important role in enriching student experiences, supporting classrooms, assisting with activities, and strengthening our school community.

Consistent with California Senate Bill 848 and District volunteer policies, all volunteers will now be required to complete annual Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training before volunteering on campus or participating in student activities. The required training is a California-specific course for school volunteers and takes approximately 35 minutes to complete.

To make this process as simple as possible, the District has partnered with PublicSchoolWORKS to provide an online volunteer portal where volunteers can register and complete the required training.

Volunteer Training Portal:

Volunteer Training Process:

  • Register as a new volunteer through the portal

  • Complete the required Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting training module

    • Upon completion, the training system will notify District staff. We will keep all records, but we recommend you save your completion certificate.

  • Classroom volunteers must also complete DOJ and FBI fingerprint clearance through the LiveScan process

    • Returning volunteers who have previously completed fingerprinting with Newcastle Elementary School District are already in our system and do not need to repeat the fingerprinting process

    • New volunteers who have not previously completed fingerprinting with the District will need to submit LiveScan fingerprints before volunteering on campus

  • Volunteer forms and fingerprinting information are available in the school office

Please note that some volunteer activities may also require additional clearance requirements such as tuberculosis clearance depending on the nature of the volunteer role. District volunteer policies and administrative regulations outline these requirements.

We appreciate your partnership and your willingness to support our students and schools. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for all children.

Thanks for all you do,

Sean Healy
Superintendent
Newcastle Elementary School District
